Aleka's Attic was a musical project Rain J. Phoenix and her brother River Phoenix developed, alongside other musicians. The vinyl - including the sleeve I painted - was released for pre-order on February 14th 2019 and has sold out. This was a very important moment for me since I've been a big fan of AA and Rain's music since I was a teenager.

Rain and River

the painting

The half-circle with vertical lines on the left is the Native American symbol for "Rain". The two waves (right side, next to the constellations) are the Native American symbol for "River". There are two fish (also Native American), which enhance the meaning of the water in their names, their close relationship, their deep love for animals, and the reason they went vegan. There's also a hidden golden circle. It represents life and I placed it on River's head (the pink "constellation" one). There are three "constellations" replicating Rain and River's figures holding each other. The pink one is upside down because it means that (as in life), no matter how you hold the painting, they're always together. The yellow one represents the light the sun and all the stars always provide. Finally, there's the white, almost crooked one, that is the center of the universe.

Three more constellations present themselves in dark blue, spotted only if you look carefully. The first one - on the top - is "Purva Ashadha", one of the 27 Nakshatras in Hindu Astrology, representing Apah, the god of water. The other constellations represent the siblings' zodiac signs: Virgo and Scorpio.

The background represents the magical universe and its energy that (amongst other things) translates into music - something they loved together since the beginning of their lives.
